A Message from FRJUSD Pertaining to School Reopening, August 26, 2020

The Fall River Joint Unified School District is pleased to announce that in-person school instruction will commence on the original date of Wednesday, August 26, 2020 for all district instructional programs.

Per Governor Newsom's executive order, since Shasta County is not on the state "County Monitoring List" due to large numbers of COVID-19 cases, we are able to open schools for our students with clear protocols to address safety concerns.

For example, every student in grades 3-12 must wear a face covering while in school.  In grades TK, K, 1, 2, masks are highly recommended by not mandatory.  All school staff will wear a covering at all times and properly maintain a six foot distancing requirement.  All students, regardless of age, will wear a face covering if riding a bus to school.  Students can bring their own mask or the school can supply the equipment.

Parents will have the option for their child to participate in Independent Study if requested.  We are hoping to see all of our students back physically but understand that families need an option if personal situations dictate that in-school participation is not desired.  Please contact your respective school directly to request independent study or ask clarifying questions around the option.

We are fortunate to not have the large numbers of positive pandemic cases in Shasta County and the Intermountain Area and will be vigilant and proactive with student and staff safety practices to keep our schools open.  Our school administration is available to answer your questions and ensure a reopening that benefits our students and their academic pursuits.

Looking forward to August 26th!!

Dr. Merrill M. Grant, FRJUSD Superintendent

WELLNESS & MENTAL HEALTH INFORMATION

According to the National Association of School Psychologists, "Mentally healthy children are more successful in school and life. Good mental health is critical to children’s success in school and life. Research demonstrates that students who receive social–emotional and mental health support achieve better academically. School climate, classroom behavior, on-task learning, and students’  sense of connectedness and well-being all improve as well. Mental health is not simply the absence of mental illness but also encompasses social, emotional, and behavioral health and the ability to cope with life’s challenges. Left unmet, mental health problems are linked to costly negative outcomes such as academic and behavior problems, dropping out, and delinquency."
In accordance with AB 2022, Pupil mental health services: school notification, the Fall River Joint Unified School District wants to ensure that parents, guardians, and students are informed about resources available for anyone who believes they are in a mental health crisis. We encourage parents/guardians and student to talk with any adult in the school district if they are concerned about another student and possible mental health needs. Take all threats of suicide seriously.
